Back Again

Home renos. Recoup. Recovering cold.  Now back in action.  Can I do one a day? We shall see :)

So doing these are making me want to paint on a canvas!  (But I'm still recovering from a cold..)

Quiet Stream

Really enjoyed doing this paint.  When I was in high school I did a series of paintings in the theme of "Journeys."
So same issues depth.  I need to look into solving this issue.
Actually for this and the previous painting I have experimented with different brushes.  They definitely bring out the texture of the different elements.

Winter Mist

All wintery scene, another challenging painting since 3 colours were used and it was hard to show depth.  I may just fiddle around with some contrasting colours to see if they flow into the painting.  To be continued...
(Edit) was faster than I thought I'd take to revisit. :)

Ebony Sunset

S1E3:  The episode was a black canvas demo, very interesting.  The start of the painting for me was fun blending the sunrise to the sky then creating the little hills over it.  When it came to the foreground it was tricky everything looked blended together and not separate pieces.
So I used the contrasting colour technique.  I lightly applied a purple hue to the foreground elements.

Did it work? I'm not sure.  Out and Onward!

Also just want to add I watched an episode of ArtCamp for landscape digital painting.  The mini compositions to study the objects was a really great tip.  I will be constructing them before starting a  painting.

And a link to all the Bob Ross paintings https://1209k.com/bobross/ for comparison.

Mount McKinley

S1E2,  So this time I used different brushes it was pretty fun.  The blend was a challenge again but I think I got something going ... maybe?

A Walk in the Woods

It's been awhile but I'm back in business!  Been struggling doing art, finally took the initiative to start again!   And this time will get out of my comfort zone and do stuff I find interesting!

Going to start off doing the Bob Ross stuff because "you can paint anything!"  So here I am. Actually digitally painting Bob Ross is a bit of a challenge and not easy.  His technique is "wet on wet" oil painting and I'm not very good at digitally painting.  I need help.

Notes on the painting:  I removed the first painted tree.  The foreground tree was melding into it.  The yellow tree doting could have been better (only used one brush).  I had a lot of problems with enhancing the depth.  The foreground tree melding with the background one the yellows I did not know how to change (choosing the right value) to differentiate.

Overall I tried to make some adjustments using blues to separate the elements.  Not very happy with the composition I didn't plan the elements correctly as I was just watching elements being plotted on canvas in the show.  I feel there's too much sky.

I watched three vids on digital painting, quite helpful.

Tips:
- using contrasting colours to define contrast (eg, using a blue don't shade in lighter or darker blue but add a little purple.)
- blending brush!  Make big solid colouring then blend.
- use one brush.
- don't focus on detailing.
- dark shadows bring out the light elements.
- (not used in this painting) reversing the image to see if it still looks good.

Mario Series Complete! 4/4

I may have rushed the details with this but overall as a whole it's satisfactory.  ha.

Tips:

- Gather reference!  Collect pictures of your subject.
- Draw the subject on the canvas.
- Brushes.. I have some crappy brushes that split when painting.  Detailing can be a nightmare.  So to remedy this wrap thread around the end of brush bristle base to keep the bristles bunched together.  Works fairly well :)
