- a beginner starts with a smaller canvas. Great tip I heard on a youtube vid, beginners or new artist like to choose the biggest canvas and create a mediocre piece. Not to say a beginner can't but with more practice when the time comes for the big piece it'll definitely show the skills and work learned.
